Your PSL Fixtures for the week of 22/04/12 to 29/04/12

The only PSL fixture today features Amazulu against relegation doomed Jomo Cosmos at 18:30. Amazulu will be looking to move above Chiefs who are on the verge of fighting for a top eight spot after thier series of losses. Friday 27/04/12 sees Orlando playing away in the hands of Ajax Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium at 20:00. This promises to be one exciting game as Ajax are also looking to book a spot in the top eight as the league nears the end. A win for Pirates would prove to be an immense confidence booster as far as winning the league title is concerned.

Saturday 28/04/12's fixtures are as follows:

15:00 Free State Stars v Maritzburg Utd Charles Mopeli Stadium

15:00 Bidvest Wits v Bloem Celtic Bidvest Stadium
20:15 Kaizer Chiefs v SuperSport United FNB Stadium
20:15 AmaZulu v Platinum Stars Moses Mabhida Stadium

Sundowns will be facing Santos at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday 29/04/12 in a must-win game that proves to be important for both teams. Sundowns are placed second on the log and hope to stay in contention for the league title. On the other hand, Santos will settle for nothing less than victory as they also need maximum points to stay clear of the relegation zone. In another Sunday PSL fixture, Moroka Swallows will welcome Golden Arrows at the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium. Both these matches will commence at 15:00.

PSL Results for the Weekend of 21/04/2012_Kaizer Chiefs registers another loss.

It seems to be getting tougher for the so-called big guns of the Premier Soccer League as the weekend produced the following results: Saturday 21/04/2012's matches could elicit the following: Golden Arrows 3 - 1 Jomo Cosmos, OBVIOUS result, Maritzburg United 1 - 0 Mamelodi Sundowns, it's tough up there; and Platinum Stars 0 - 1 Free State Stars. Steve Khompela seems to be in business as his side moved to fifth position ahead of Chiefs on the log.  Later in the evening of the same day saw SupersSport United move to third position after they defeated Ajax Cape Town by 2 goals to 1. Orlando Pirates hang on to the first spot after being held to 0-0 draw by Wits.

Then came Sunday 22/04/2012 which didn't turn out to be a memorable day for Kaizer Chiefs and its fans as they lost again, this time in the hands of relegation threatened Santos by 2 goals to 1. This has put a massive dent on Chiefs' title hopes, also stirring some serious disappointment to its fans. I have been going through some of the Kaizer Chiefs fans Facebook comments and picked up that they are on a mission to discontinue attending matches for the rest of the season. Some of them even threatened to withdraw their memberships with the club only until the end of the season. Bloemfontein Celtic played to 1-all draw with Swallows who are also threatening to win the league title this season. Swallows are currently fourth on the log with four points behind the log leaders Orlando Pirates. Amazulu have moved to seventh position behind Kaizer Chiefs after hammering Black Leopards by 4 goals to 1. One question still remains: Who will win the SA Premier Soccer League title this season?

Orlando Pirates moves to the top of the Premier Soccer League Table.

Orlando Pirates logo

Wednesday 18/04/2012 produced the following results which saw the mighty Buccaneers of Orlando Pirates move to the top of the Premier Soccer League table ahead of Sundowns.
Moroka Swallows  0-0 Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns 1-2 Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits 1-1 Ajax Cape Town, Amazulu 1-0 Golden Arrows, Jomo Cosmos 1-2 Bloemfontein Celtic, Santos 0-1 SuperSport United, Free State Stars 2-2 Leopards.

Will Pirates defend their League title this season? It seems to be the case with the way Pirates is performing this season. The top six teams are still in contention with Sundowns looking the more likely to upset Pirates in their mission. Not much can be said about Chiefs considering their inconsistent performance and inability to win at least two games in a row.
Did you know that Jomo Sono made a statement at the beginning of the season before a single Premier Soccer League match was even played, that ALL he wants this season is to survive relegation. It's like asking a Standard 10 student how they would like to perform at the end of their exam, and they answered by saying that a supplementary exam is what they are aiming for. THEY KNOW THAT THEY HAVE ALREADY FAILED. Two simple questions: Is Jomo fighting against relegation NOW? YES! Second question: Will he survive relegation, I don't know but it looks that way as his dreams of fighting against it have ALL come true. You will always get the same results in life if you continue doing the same things and this, cannot be argued against.
All I can say is Congratulations to mighty Buccaneers for climbing to the top of the Premier Soccer League table. Up the Bucs!

PSL Mid-Week Fixtures_ A Must Win game for Chiefs

This week's Premier Soccer League mid-week fixtures commence with Kaizer Chiefs facing Maritzburg United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium tonight at 19:30. Both teams head into tonight's match licking wounds from being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup this past weekend at the hands of Free State Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively. Chiefs lost by a goal to nil while Maritzburg United were walloped 2-0 by Sundowns. Nothing less than a victory would put a smile on the faces of the Amakhosi fans whilst a victory could see them move up one spot on the Premier Soccer League table to third position on the log.

The much anticipated match will be held tomorrow between the second placed Orlando Pirates and third placed Moroka Swallows at the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium at 20:00. Jomo Cosmos will be looking for their third win in 24 games as they will be up against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 19:30 on Wednesday 18th April 2012. The rest of the teams will also be in action on the same day with all the matches kicking off at 19:30.

Premier Soccer League presents the Nedbank Cup

Chiefs logo     Versus    FSS logo

This weekend sees the resumption of the Nedbank Cup as Kaizer chiefs will be facing the culprits of knocking the mighty Buccaneers out in Free State Stars tomorrow, Saturday, 14th April 2012 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 20:15. Chiefs will be without their recently dismissed coach Vladimir whose contract was terminated prior to expiration.  Doctor Khumalo, Ace Khuse and Arthur Zwane have been put in charge for the rest the season. Let's hope for the best for Chiefs.

In a match that will take place earlier, also tomorrow at 15:00, Sundowns will be taking on Maritzburg United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Sunday the 15th April 2012 will be an afternoon of matches that will both take place at 15:00 as SuperSport United will be up against Jomo Cosmos at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and Amazulu will take on Santos at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

The Only PSL Fixture today. Black Leopards vs Sundowns

Black Leopards Logo   versus Sundowns Logo

Sundowns will be looking to move back to the top of the Premier Soccer League table tonight as they will be up against Black Leopards at 19:30. Sundowns are only three points behind the log leaders in Orlando Pirates who are currently sitting at 46 points at the top. Leopards will be looking for a much important victory to avoid relegation as we approach the end of the season. Also, Leopards' previous game against Chiefs could prove significant in terms of their confidence ahead of tonight's match. I personally do not see Sundowns losing tonight's match as most of the so-called small teams tend to perform at their best against Chiefs. That's just my opinion, you are more than welcome to share yours in the comments box.

The rest of the Premier Soccer League teams will only be in action next week as we shall witness Chiefs taking on Maritzburg United on the 17th April at 19:30. Another Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Swallows will take place at 20:00 on Wednesday 18th April.

Why is Khompela selected as Bafana Bafana's assistant coach?

First and foremost, he is the head coach of Free State stars who are currently placed on the sixth spot on the log, not first. They are nowhere near winning the league and all we could settle for was NOT the best. Steve Khompela is multilingual and exceptionally good in English, full-stop. He speaks well and nobody can take that away from him, but as for him being chosen to assist in National soccer duties; I fail to justify his appointment.

South African football reached the peak of its standard once when we won the African Cup of Nations. My opinion is this: those in higher authorities are doing  as they please to thicken their pockets and those of their fellow acquaintances. Soccer zone keeps on asking for our opinions about such issues, but no action is ever taken on their basis. Steve Khompela should either focus his whole attention on Free State Stars or resign as their head coach and only serve as Bafana Bafana's assistant coach. On what merit was he even chosen as the assistant coach? Was it because he knocked Pirates out of the Nedbank Cup?

The Glamor Boys in Kaizer Chiefs play Black Leopards twice in 4 days

All Kaizer Chiefs supporters will be expecting nothing less than three points tonight, as the Phefeni Glamor Boys will be up against Black Leopards in a Premier Soccer League match that should prove whether Chiefs are still in contention for the PSL title or not.

The two teams met in a Premier Soccer League's Nedbank Cup match that took place on Saturday night of 31-March-2012 which was immensely dominated by Kaizer Chiefs as they emerged victors by four Lehlohonolo Majoro goals with no response from the Leopards. Victory for Chiefs in tonight's game could see them move to second on the Premier Soccer League log placing them two points behind the log leaders Sundowns. Will Chiefs skin Leopards alive, again? We will have to wait and see.

The rest of PSL teams will all be in action tomorrow as we shall witness the Mighty Buccaneers of Orlando Pirates take on Amazulu away from home. Sundowns faces Golden Arrows at home. All these matches will commence at 19:30.
