You
know, as much as the English and European standard of football is
higher than ours, we only have ourselves to blame. That's simply because
we keep encouraging our players to DREAM of playing overseas whereas we
NEVER have quality overseas players coming into our country to showcase their talent. How do
you expect the standard of football to rise when most of our "best" players are
showcasing their talent elsewhere?
When do we get to see them play in our country? Only when their footballing careers are on the brink of collapsing. They come back just like Benni did to bang in goals as much as he is doing, guess what; our standard of football is so low that even players looking to earn a little extra retirement income are able to do so with ease. Don't get me wrong, but you also need to comprehend the fact that Benni is not at his peak. We all know what he used to do, oops; he is still doing it...I am not saying that players shouldn't dream big as opportunities are not monopolized.

This should all start with the South African Football Association reviewing their budget towards the Premier Soccer league (mind you, I don't know where the Premier Soccer League's budget comes from). Local players need to be paid enough to FORGET about the slightest of DREAMS of going to play overseas. This can also serve as motivation and possibly improve our players' performance. This is only my point of view, and it's definitely not an easy task to carry out and hope to accomplish overnight, but requires a lot of investment in the subject in terms of money, training and so forth. What do I know?
